Kirsters Baish| One Colorado family is livid after two men were accused of gang-raping a 13-year-old girl with their brothers and cousins and only sentenced to probation.
This past Tuesday, 20-year-old Tommy Williams and 19-year-old Clarence Williams were both sentenced to a minimum of 10 years each of intensive supervised probation for sex offenders. KKTC reported that they each have a maximum of life on probation. These men are just two of the six men who are suspected of having sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl in December of 2016. The assault took place at Colorado Springs’ Stonebrook Terrace apartment complex.
The grandfather of the victim explained that he was utterly shocked at the news of the sentencing. He explained to KKTC, “There was six of them and they gang-raped my granddaughter.”
Some of the gang of criminals are said to be related to one another. It was reported that some of the attackers were cousins or brothers. They were identified as Jacolby Williams, Tyron Williams, James Williams, and a juvenile, as well as Tommy and Clarence Williams. Authorities have said that the men were with the girl on Dec. 19, according to The Gazette.
Authorities were told by the victim that she knew one of the men who attacked her. He had invited her to the apartment, claiming that they would be playing video games. The girl explained that she entered the apartment with a few female friends, but when she got out of the restroom her friends were gone.
KKTB reported that arrest records show that two of the attackers had then taken the teen out of the restroom. They then forced her to make her way into a bedroom where the other four men were waiting to attack her.
The grandmother of the girl explained during a February sentencing that the 13-year-old was simply passed around by the men “like a hand on a clock” while they were attacking her. She came forward in court on Tuesday, and with tears in her eyes explained that her granddaughter may never be able to have children because of complications from the attack.
Fox News reports:
In January 2017, Tyron Williams was also sentenced to 10 years to life of sex offender intense supervised probation. Before his sentencing, he apologized to the victim and her family, and reportedly said that “If I knew she was underage, it wouldn’t have happened in the first place.”
James Williams was sentenced in August 2016 to five years of probation, and the unidentified juvenile reportedly has an impending court date. Jacolby Williams’ trial was scheduled for March 5; it’s unclear what transpired.
There is something horribly wrong with our legal system if these men, who brutally gang-raped a child, are simply sentenced to probation rather than seeing real consequences for their actions. These men showed no compassion when they were raping a child, so I don’t see why the courts should be showing them any compassion at all. They should be treated like the animals that they have proved themselves to be.
