Kirsters Baish| The British National Health Service just made a very interesting move as the government-run medical system. They have just ordered that more than 50,000 “non-urgent” surgeries in every hospital in England be canceled. This call has left sick patients not knowing if they will be receiving the care they desperately need.
The order was made on Tuesday while hospitals were left dealing with huge crowds of sick patients coming in from a winter outbreak of the flu. Some of the patients were left waiting for upwards of 12 hours. The Washington Free Beacon reported that waiting patients were seen piling into the corridors when seating became scarce.
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, made a public apology on Thursday while being interviewed by Sky News. May stated “I know it’s difficult, I know it’s frustrating, I know it’s disappointing for people and I apologize.” She was visiting patients in a London hospital during the time of the interview.
The NHS provides free government subsidized health care to all British citizens. This makes up roughly a third of England’s entire budget. The issue is that this move has pushed the quality of health care in England to plummet in recent years. England is the perfect example of why we cannot provide free health care for all Americans, despite what the progressive left claims.
One doctor who was interviewed described treating patients with “battlefield medicine.” Other doctors have explained that hospitals are seeing “third world conditions” while the medical staff has become totally overwhelmed with the masses of patients pouring through the doors with flu-like symptoms.
Ever since Britain began their government-run health care system, there has been a clear decrease in quality of care for patients. Leftist politicians are still trying to push a similar plan for our country.
In 2015, Paul Gallagher wrote about the horrific state of the NHS for the Independent. He stated:
Hospitals are now so short-staffed and underequipped that people are also dying needlessly because of a chronic lack of investment. The verdict, from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will make embarrassing reading for (then-Prime Minister) David Cameron who denied the cash-strapped NHS is heading for its worst winter crisis.
Gallagher also explained that Britain was put on par with Chile and Poland. These are countries that are still having issues with performers in survival after diagnosis for different kinds of cancer. The United Kingdom ranked 21st out of 23 countries when it comes to cervical cancer survival. They came in 20th out of 23 countries on breast and bowel cancer survival. They were 19th out of 21 countries when it came to strokes. These numbers are not looking good, but the left doesn’t seem to think the failing health care system has much to do with it.
These statistics are unacceptable, and anyone in the United States who truly believes that this kind of health care plan would help us is out of their mind. Sick patients in the UK are waiting for help while their surgeries are being canceled because of a faulty health care system. We cannot allow this kind of system to be put into place in our country. Thank God Trump won the 2016 presidential election, because Hillary Clinton would be pushing this kind of mess on us. I can almost guarantee it.
