Inmate Convicted of Child Porn Charges Reportedly Killed During Prison Fight

Kirsters Baish| It has been reported by Fox News that a man who had been serving a 40-year prison sentence after being slapped with child porn charges, has died after being involved in a prison fight at the federal detention center he was being housed at in Michigan state, which is located around 50 miles southwest of Detroit.

The deceased, 40-year-old Christian Maire of New York, was pronounced dead by authorities not long after a fight that involved seven inmates this past Tuesday, according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

“It’s a horrible tragedy and it seems something like this should have been able to be avoided,” Maire’s attorney, Mark Kriger, told the Detroit News on Friday, following his client’s murder.

Fox News reports, “Three of the other inmates involved were treated for serious injuries and two prison staff members had minor injuries, the statement said. Details of how Maire was injured weren’t immediately released, but the death was being investigated as an apparent homicide. Meanwhile, one source familiar with the investigation told the Detroit News that at least one attacker was armed with a shiv or homemade knife. The prison was placed on ‘limited operational status’ with visiting suspended.”

Newsweek reports:

While the Federal Bureau of Prisons has not released many details of the incident, the death is being treated as an apparent homicide, the Detroit Free Press reported.

According to a statement from the Bureau, Christian Maire, 40, died of injuries he sustained during the fight at Milan Federal Correctional Institution—which houses more than 1,300 inmates. Two prison guards and three other inmates also received medical treatment as a result of the “altercation.”

An investigation is now being conducted by the FBI into the incident to determine whether criminal charges can be brought against any of the other inmates involved.

Newsweek reports that the deceased was a native of Port Dickinson, New York. At the time of his death, he was married with two children of his own.

On December 7, he was given a 40-year prison term, however he was being held at the Milan detention center since May 29, 2018, Michigan Live reported.

Maire was in charge of a group of seven men from Canada and America who attempted to “lure” over a hundred underage females into online video chats between the years 2012 and 2017. Some of the girls were as young as 10 years old.

The men had the young girls strip in front of their web cameras once they successfully lured them into the chatrooms. Court documents show that the men even had some of the girls hurt themselves with sharp objects on camera.
