Kirsters Baish| Even thought Barack Obama has been out of office for a year and a half now, he is still bleeding the American taxpayer dry. You may be wondering how. Well, there is almost $200 million that is set aside to pay for work on the infrastructure road work surrounding the Obama Presidential Center, which is currently being constructed in Chicago, Illinois.
Biz Pac Review reported:
“The Obama Presidential Center will be a transformational project for Chicago’s south side, and this state funding demonstrates Illinois’ commitment to honoring the legacy of Chicago’s favorite son and daughter,” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proudly announced in a statement Friday, referencing Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama.
While the former president and his wife admittedly grew up in Chicago, it remains unclear why Emanuel considers them to be “Chicago’s favorite son and daughter.”
“The state’s $174 million investment in infrastructure improvements near the Obama Center on the South Side of Chicago is money well spent,” he reportedly added in another statement.
Chicago locals aren’t convinced by what Emmanuel had to say. Local parks activists don’t feel that it is “money well spent.” They filed a lawsuit just last month, trying to stop the construction of the presidential center, claiming that it’s a sham.
Three years ago, the Obama Foundation began to lease parts of Jackson Park to do the project. They made the entire city of Chicago believe that they had planned on building an official library which would be run by federal officials. After Obama got the lease, he changed his mind and didn’t even include a library anywhere in the entire center.
The center will just be a normal library run by the Obama administration rather than serving as an “official presidential library” that houses historical documents as well as archives from the past administration.
Rev. B. Herbert Martin Sr. is an activist working to stop the project. He stated of the decision, “The citizens of Chicago have been told repeatedly that we must make tough fiscal choices for our city. Our streets run red with blood from gun violence even as nonprofits dedicated to violence prevention are woefully underfunded. Schools have been closed in our most vulnerable communities due to lack of funding. Community members face eviction and displacement from their homes because of gentrification across our city.”
Martin explained that there would be “no justice” in spending that much money on such a project with all of the issues in Chicago.
Fox News reported:
The controversial Obama Presidential Center in Chicago will benefit from almost $200 million in taxpayer funding for work on infrastructure projects near the center on Chicago’s South Side.
The Chicago Sun Times first reported Friday that Illinois lawmakers had approved $174 million for roadwork in and around Jackson Park related to the development of the center.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a former Obama White House chief of staff, described the infrastructure improvements as “money well spent.”
This just goes to show where Obama’s priorities lay. He is only concerned about himself, just like he’s always been.
